Team of the Week #1 - Stockport Sports FC

Name: Stockport Sports FC
Nickname: The Saxons
Manager: Asa Crowe
Formed: 2012 (1970 as Woodley)
Stadium: Stockport Sports Village: 2384 Capacity
League: NWCFL Premier Division:

History/Trophies: Cheshire FA Senior Cup Winners 2003–04
The club was in the Northern Premier League First Division when they were still Woodley Sports but with the name change came a demotion because the ground wasn’t up to scratch so they played the 2012/13 season in the NWCFL.

Last Season: The club failed to have much impact on the league, finishing 16th. Peter Withe was the manager at the start of the season but resigned early into the season and Darren Finch was in charge of steading the ship. Key striker John Marsden left for Stoke City.

This Season: The club has had 3 managers this season, Darren Finch, Stuart Rudd, and Asa Crowe. The new season brought renewed optimism but early form failed to live up to such expectations. Asa Crowe instilled a local player ethos and they have little to play for after being knocked out of the FA Cup, Vase, local county cup and league cup early on; so building work is beginning for next season.
